I am passively looking for a job. Passively because I do not really want to leave my current job (good benefits, acceptable salary, etc.) BUT I am looking for greener pastures.

At the moment, my eyes are set on Singapore. I figured that it would be easier for me to get a job there compared to the US, Canada or Australia.

Anyways, if you are looking for a PHP Web/Application Developer contact me at wenbert[AT]ekini.net and I will send you my resume.

I learn fast and love being with people who know more than I do. I am very passionate about the Web and Web Development — I been freelancing since college until now, I do not feel tired/bored.

PHP, ASP.NET, Ruby On Rails Job Comparison

Like the author, I don’t know Ruby on Rails. But I have been hearing about it a lot for the past few months. Recently, I had a discussion with a friend about the beauty of RoR - How fast development time could be and other niffty features included in RoR. I wanted to dive into it (RoR) but the article is giving me seconds thoughts.

I don’t do RoR….yet, I hear the good things about it so I’m really close into diving into it. Before I do I want to make sure RoR is going to be something I can use professionally too. Here is a 30 minute research into the jobs out there for RoR compared to Asp.Net & PHP. I searched for the phrases “Ruby on Rails”, “PHP”, “ASP.NET” and radius of 100 miles from the zip code. There is no doubt some overlap of job posting but this is pretty clear indication of where things are.

You should read the whole article.

I think this is really great. A former marijuana smuggler advertises himself on a newspaper to get a job. After serving abestad.jpg 10-year sentence, this is probably the best thing to do. If I were the US government, I would definitely hire this guy.

Thank God it’s Friday, greener pastures and the Philippine Stock Market

Yesss! Friday. I love Fridays. I want to play The Cure’s, Friday I’m In Love song but I am listening to SSS on SomaFM right now. :P I have been very busy this week. I literally work from 930AM-630PM (at the office) and then at 730PM-1AM (at home). So that is 9 hours plus 5/6 hours. I need the extra income from the sidework. Gas prices are insanely high — they are still increasing it as of now. At a daily rate without letting us know. When you fill your tank today, then you fill it again tomorrow, the price won’t be the same.

I am planning to apply for a new job today. I will be making my resume — the first time 2 years. The company is just a couple of meters away from home. I can save more on the gas and food :D I have heard a lot of good things about this Focus. Real good stuff. Enough to convince me — and I’m hard as rock. hehe! I am very optimistic about this new job oppurtunity. I still feel good about my current job. EMSSI has been real good. But the thought of money always moves everyone — even someone like me ;P

Now for the good news. Yes, good news. You heard me right. Even though we live in this god-forsaken country, good news still pops out every now and then. The Philippine Stock Market is doing realy well these days. Yey! When you go to Yehey.com/Finance, you will see that most of the stocks are green. Hurray for President Arroyo. The oppisition can kiss her presidential ass on this.

Headlines say that the stock market’s performance this month/year or something, is the best in 7 years! 7 Years ago, the dot-com bubble bursted and scandals plague the Philippine Stocks Exchange — thanks a lot BW for ruining our lives. May god have mercy on your soul and may you burn in hell for all eternity.

Let’s pray that this trend goes on for the sake of our country and our economy.

Be smarter at work, slack off

I got this from my officemate — Dani a.k.a Steelwater, the owner of On Women and Soulchow.

The Google example

If you doubt it, consider Google. On February 23, the company unveiled a new product called Page Creator, which allows people who can’t write HTML code to create their own web pages quickly and easily.

Within hours, this was such a smash hit that the company had to put a temporary limit on the number of Google (Research) users who can sign up for it.

Page Creator is the brainchild of an engineer named Justin Rosenstein whose relatives were constantly bugging him to build web pages for them. He came up with the elegant technology behind the product while noodling around at the office on a project unrelated to his regular job.

Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, Calif., is a famously laid-back place, replete with lap pools, massage rooms, pool tables, free haute cuisine, and loads of other stress-reducing amenities like onsite dry cleaners and hair stylists.

“We want to take as much hurry and worry out of people’s lives as we can, because a relaxed state of mind unleashes creativity,” says Stacy Sullivan, the company’s HR director. “And everybody’s on flextime here, so we don’t reward face time or working super-long hours. We just measure results.”

In the end, what else matters? Of course, not every workplace can match Google’s. But plenty of companies might do a lot worse than to emulate the thinking behind it.
